Netherland Dwarfs!
Following the criteria of ARBA's Standards of Perfection, we strive only for the best quality and temperament in our Netherland Dwarfs. This breed is a compact type, with a medium to medium heavy bone. The head is to be mounted high on the body showing a rounded appearance from every angle, with well furred, thick and widely based ears that are held erect, but not necessarily touching. The ears are to be well rounded and not exceed 2.5 inches, while the desired length is 2 inches or less. The body is to round well, with a wide set deep shoulder. There is to be no taper from the shoulder to the rump, as little bone as possible is to be felt. There is to be no daylight visible between the front and back limbs, and the front limbs are to be of shorter length, as not to protrude out when rabbit is posed.
A correctly posed dwarf, is not posed erect on it's feet, but in a comfortable position executing a high head mount. The hind feet are to be in line with the knee, and the front feet aligned with the shoulder. A good quality dwarf will have a well balanced body, not having an extremity blown out of proportion to the rest of the body.
The weight of a netherland dwarf is not to be over 2.5 pounds, the idea for seniors being 2 pounds. Juniors are not to be under 1 pound if shown.
The average life span of a Netherland Dwarf tends to vary between 8 and 12 years, however they are fully capable of living longer. Temperament of the dwarfs can be very calm and passive, however they're known to be aggressive if improperly raised/handled, or bred. Does are more likely to be grumpy than bucks (and what I have come to notice, is that they can go through cycles of aggression), though both genders are fully capable of being aggressive, or mild natured.
With regards to the above information, Netherland Dwarfs can be the ideal pet bunny due to their small size and generally mild nature.
